Niederurnen holiday home

On the far side of the Klöntal Valley, the municipality of Netstal had a bath house for spa therapy and whey treatments built in 1870, which was run as a branch of the renowned ‘Glarnerhof‘ hotel in Glarus. After being damaged in a fire towards the end of 1883, the house was rebuilt as the Hotel & Pension Klöntal (Klöntal Hotel & Guesthouse). On behalf of the Ida Foundation, architect Hans Leuzinger oversaw the conversion of the building into the Niederurnen holiday home, which was opened in 1925. If you have any questions, or if you would like to make a reservation, our property department is on hand and will be happy to advise you over the phone.

Hotel Rhodannenberg

The busiest and most bustling spot, right by the reservoir dam of Lake Klöntal. All manner of people gather here – hikers on the Glaralalpina, cyclists who have tackled both short-distance and long-distance routes, swimmers braving the brisk and invigorating lake, anglers trying their luck, car and motorbike enthusiasts taking the opportunity for a stopover, or parents who want to relax while keeping an eye on their children as they play in the extensive children’s playground. Directly in front of the house at the bus stop, the paths fork – leading back to Glarus via the Schwammhöchi in one direction, or further into the valley to the end of the lake in the other, via the Pragelpassstrasse into the Muotatal Valley. Needless to say, the Schwammhöchi can also be reached on foot within about 45 minutes via a steep path, or you can enjoy a predominantly shaded hike at the foot of the Glärnisch massif that takes you along the lake to Plätz in about 1.5 hours, then relax while the ‘PostBus’ takes you back to your starting point once you’re ready to head home. It’s definitely worth paying a visit to the shaded Rhodi terrace for a warm meal or a few scoops of ice cream, as well as the unforgettable view of Lake Klöntal. In addition, there are nine rooms available for booking to allow you to get to know the Klöntal Valley in a bit more detail.

Richisau

A hidden gem for nature lovers and aficionados, free of swimming pools, tennis courts, big social events and concerts. Many well-known and famous people have met here. They would come from Palermo or St. Petersburg. In Richisau, people have been painting, writing poetry, composing and seeking treatments and therapy since the middle of the 19th century, when whey treatments were in their heyday and alpine landscape painting was soaring to new heights. To this day, you can still find people seeking rest relaxation and artists offering ‘local art’ alongside the maple trees.

Pragel / Bödmeren alpine products

The Pragel Bödmeren region is an imposing natural and cultural landscape. The spruce forest is considered to be the largest “primeval forest” in Central Europe. The open pastures have been used for centuries. Farmers from Muotathal have been shaping the cultural landscape of Pragel Bödmeren through their family farms for generations. The dairy industry has always played a central role in this regard.
The alpine people were looking for a way to maintain the greatest possible added value in the region. After 2 years of preparation time, the ‘Alpprodukte Pragel Bödmeren’ cooperative was founded on 6 July, 2007 in the Pragelpasshöhe restaurant. The store, which is located in Mittsweid, is closed during the winter months.
